TasRail Box Meanings

TASRAIL Box Meannings

Box 1 - track warrant xxxx is void

Box 2 - proceed from xxxx to yyyy on zzzz track (zzzz in invariably main track, there are no other options in Tasmania)

Box 3 - as above but not used

Box 4 - work between xxxx and yyyy on zzzz track

Box 5 - Not in effect until xxxxxxxx (I don't think they are allowed
to use this box any more)

Box 6 - This authority expires at xxxxxxxx

Box 7 - Not in effect until arrival of xxxxxxx at yyyyyyy (use of
this box now not allowed)

Box 8 - Hold main track at last named point

Box 9 - Do not foul limits ahead of xxxxxx (where xxxx is usually a train number)

Box 10 - Clear main track at last named point

Box 11 - Between xxx and yyy make all movements at restricted speed, limits occupied by train

Box 12 - Between xxx and yyy make all movements at restricted speed, limits occupied by men and equipment

Box 13 - Do not exceed xxxx km/h between zzz km and yyy km

Box 14 - Do not exceed xxxx km/h between zzz km and yyy km

Box 15 - flag protection not required against following trains on
the same track (I'm not sure on this one, might have to check a form to see what it really says).

Box 16 - track bulletins in effect (not used)

Box 17 - Other specific instructions (usually used to protect
against train running in front)

The majority of track warrants use only combinations of boxes 2, 4,
8, 10 and 17. Box 9 seems only to be given to track gangs, while 11, 12, 13 and 14 get the occasional outing, the latter two especially in summer when heat restrictions are in force.
